LEARN IN YOUR OWN WAY
Most Online courses consist of old updated DVD material, hastily uploaded to the Internet. I'm offering classes with something different: .
  • Multiple Videos showing the moves from all angles,
  • Simple Gifs that repeat the move for easy learning (see image),
  • Extra Audio walk through-files,
  • Instructional PDFs that build into a comprehensive sword manual.
Classes are delivered to your email inbox weekly - Too busy that week to do the posture? No problem, it will stay there for when you are ready. Prefer not to do it weekly? Then save up the files and practice them together when it best suits you.

5 COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT THE
TAI CHI SWORD (JIAN)

1: What are the benefits to learning the Tai Chi sword at home?

teapotmonk and tai chi sword training
  • Learning sword Tai Chi teaches grace and balance, fluidity in movement and imparts an overpowering experience of harmony within the dynamics of each move.
  • Some people need extra time to learn the moves, others less. Some learn quickly others more slow. Some like to perform in public, others feel that they learn better in  the privacy of their own home.
  • Teachers are required to balance all of these needs, and this is not an easy job. So other teaching methods are required. Online or Home learning is one such method.
  • Learn at your own pace. Classes and moves can be repeated as often as needed,

2: Do I need to have practised Tai Chi before learning Sword at home?

ANSWER: No.  Despite what you may think, you do not need to know Tai Chi in order to learn the Sword. And it's not just me that thinks so, other authors and sword teachers agree that the sword Form teaches a different set of skills. The two practices are inter-dependent, meaning that you can learn one, without necessarily having studied the other first. Think of it like learning High Jump and Long Jump. They are related, but you don't need to practice both to achieve competency in one.
If you do have any Tai Chi experience then you will find some of the moves familiar. But the sword is different and has another sense of movement altogether.

3: How Much does it cost to buy a Tai Chi Sword or Jian?

ANSWER: It's Cheaper than you think! I am using an Amazon $20  - retractable sword  - blunt edged -  easy to transport and comes with a sword carrying case. Don't opt for a cheaper version - it'll fall apart (see video above). Go for the $20+ - or look at the $50 Physcool version (my favourite).  But there are even cheaper options - wooden, bamboo sticks and more.
In the first week of the course you receive advice on buying wooden, retractable and metal swords - comparing and evaluating them all. in 3 review videos. You can watch the final review below.  I have put a few links to my favourite retractable swords beneath the video.

4: Is the Tai Chi Sword training difficult?

Tai Chi Sword Posture in training course
All the Tai Chi Forms are challenging - both empty hands and weapons Forms.  However, each time I teach the sword, I find students learn it easier than the empty hand Tai Chi Form. This is why I'm opening up the course to everyone.

THE 32 STEP SWORD FORM
To help, many of the postures get repeated, and they are big moves, exaggerated moves, which means if you are relaxed, the momentum of the body carries you along.
Additionally, each month you'll have extra recap videos sent to you, lists of instructions in a PDF that build into an ebook as well as audio help files and more.  We even have a Facebook group.to optionally connect with (your choice).
