What is the difference between tai chi and yoga?
Tai Chi classes and Yoga classes vary considerably, but generally speaking, the poses in Yoga are held and many are based on floor positions. Tai Chi postures, in contrast, are never static, like the breath in Tai Chi, they are in a constant state of movement. Tai Chi classes may involve partner work, slow breathing exercises (called Qigong), and some include the learning of weapons, such as sword. CAN I LEARN TAI CHI FROM A BOOK?
You can learn a lot from a book. But at some point you might want to go and find a class to join, either locally or online. The reason being that you will need to see the moves come alive, to see how the moves and postures merge into each other (called transitions). And this is difficult with static photos. This is why I created this course that teaches the 12 step Form using online video, audio and is a book too. Read more about Books on Tai Chi Or Get this workbook and begin your Tai Chi today.
CAN I LEARN TAI CHI FROM AN ONLINE COURSE?
Once upon a time, you had to find a class near you. But many people found that the class clashed with their work or home timetable. Or the style was not what they were looking for, or simply that the nearest good class was too far away. The internet has changed all that. Today everyone has a computer or smart phone that can play back (or stream) videos and audio content. This makes it possible to learn with the instructor you prefer, the style you want to learn, at a more reasonable price. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN TAI CHI?
As much as I dislike giving vague answers, I'm afraid this one depends on you. If you wan to learn the 187 step Traditional Yang Form with all martial applications, it may take a while. But again, that depends on you. How is your co-ordination? How is your balance? How much time do you have to practice? On the other hand, if you want a more relaxed approach, try an introduction that gives you the basics. You can always move on from there. Such as this Beginners Guide.
